Annual English Retreat: Virtual Soul Retreat
May 23, 2021
9:30AM – 9:00PM
How is your soul? In recent days, you have made countless sacrifices and adjustments in your life – personal, home-life and work. Though many of us don’t have to go to work or school, many have found this time of lockdown incredibly exhausting, stressful and overwhelming.
In the midst of busyness, Jesus didn’t invite his disciples into more busyness. He invited them into rest. Mark 6:31 writes, “Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” In the same way, we would like to invite you into a quiet place for rest for your souls: a soul care day for prayer, community, spiritual practices, and rest.
On Sunday, May 23, 2021 we are asking you to set aside a day for retreat, a day for your soul, a day for God. We will be meeting online at 9:30 am with a time of worship and instruction. We will have two spaces for spiritual practices, morning and afternoon, and two soul groups where we share how God has spoken to us. In the evening we will have an opportunity to just meet together and have fun and enjoy one another, something many of us are sorely missing. This retreat has been designed to be flexible for those with young children or other needs at home.
There will also be the opportunity for individual spiritual direction. Many have found that the experience of meeting with a spiritual director as transformative in their own relationship with God. What is spiritual direction? Here’s one definition:
“Spiritual direction is typically a one on one helping relationship, though at times direction can be facilitated in groups. The spiritual director, the directee and the Holy Spirit form a trio where the true Director is the Spirit of God. The director points the directee toward God and helps them to notice and identify God’s work in their lives. The director’s main role is to discern God’s working in the life of the directee and help him or her to draw closer to God. This is accomplished by listening intently and compassionately as the directee shares their life stories and experiences. The director then helps the directee to draw connections between their experiences and the work of God in their lives.” If you are interested in meeting with a spiritual director during the retreat, please indicate this on your registration form. There will be a charge of $20 for those who receive individual spiritual direction.
Please indicate your interest in having individual spiritual direction by submitting your registration by May 2, 2021.
